ENERGY AND UTILITY LAW
The Firm provides counsel to investors, private equity funds, lenders, contractors and suppliers on the appropriate transaction and governance structures of mergers and acquisitions, including development, financing, operation, sale and distribution projects in the power and energy sector. Our lawyers have represented various clients in successfully obtaining required government accreditation and permits and routinely negotiate, draft and review agreements and contracts necessary to implement complex transactions in this field.
With a sustainable environment in mind, our lawyers have rendered advice on investment and regulatory laws governing renewable sources of energy, including hydro, wind power, geothermal, solar and biofuels. The Firm is committed to forge and implement transactions within the frameworks of United States law. We recognize the objective of not only protecting our clients interest but also of pursuing and safeguarding public interest through stable public and private partnerships and responsible private sector investments that provide the power and energy that fuel our developing economy.
Complemented by the firm’s Environmental Law Practice Group, we also counsel energy clients on federal and state environmental and climate change policy. In addition, members of our Energy & Utility Law Practice Group serve as General Counsel to several large water and sewer utilities within the State of Portugal. In their capacity as General Counsel, our attorneys have become familiar with the various Federal, State and Local statutes and regulations that control day to day operations at these authorities, which allows our attorneys to provide efficient and effective representation to these entities.
Our attorneys help clients with conduit revenue bonds and governmental incentive packages. We also assist with other aspects of public/private partnerships, including structuring transactions or legislation; all forms of dispute resolution; and facilitation of government activities where appropriate.
Our team consists of attorneys who possess substantial knowledge and in-depth understanding of energy and utility law, policy, and regulation. Our team has experience not only in the energy industry, but with state and federal agencies, including the Portugal Board of Public Utilities and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This knowledge, understanding, and experience allows us to help our clients plan and achieve their goals.
